Twitter Adds Ethereum Tipping And Wallet Support

Twitter is delving a step further into the crypto ecosystem, now allowing users to tip each other in Ethereum, alongside Bitcoin

Twitter is expanding its involvement in the crypto economy by enabling users to tip one another with Ethereum in addition to Bitcoin. At the moment, the function is only accessible on mobile.

Twitter’s action comes in the wake of the company’s ongoing examination of the Ethereum ecosystem. Last month, the firm announced the launch of non-fungible token (NFT) verification for premium “Twitter Blue” members. However, all users who agree to the company’s tipping policy will have access to Ethereum wallet functionality.

“We’re continuing to expand ways to get paid on Twitter which includes more choices for creators and fans who want to use crypto,” Johnny Winston, lead product manager of creator monetization at Twitter, told CoinDesk in a statement. “We’re excited to add the ability for anyone to add their ETH Address to Tips.”

The late debut of Ethereum might be attributed to Jack Dorsey, who was still CEO of Twitter last year. The billionaire exited the firm in December and has since devoted his efforts to Block’s infrastructure development. In September, the platform enabled users to link their Lightning addresses to their accounts through Bitcoin Failover on the Lightning Network.

According to the spokesman, the new functionality does not support domain names registered with the Ethereum Name Service (ENS). The business stated that tipping using ETH and ERC-20 tokens (including Ethereum-based stablecoins) would be enabled. Additionally, Twitter announced the availability of its tips function in Nigeria, Ghana, and India.
