Video Transcript

GIANNA FRANCO: –are back, the “Rugrats,” in a reboot premiering on Paramount+. And OK, EG Daily and Cheryl Chase are here, the voices of Tommy Pickles and Angelica Pickles. I’m very excited about this. I babysat my nephews. They were huge fans of the show. And now that I have my own kids, we’ve watched the movie. So I– it just introduced a whole new generation to what was so fun and entertaining as kids.

EG DAILY: Yeah, that’s what we’re so excited about, is that the “Rugrats”– like, I raised my kids to it, and now your– you have little children. And what’s so beautiful is that they’ve taken all the same stuff of the original “Rugrats,” like the kids and the family and the relationships and all the coziness of that. But now it’s got this new CGI, which is so incredible.

But on top of that, we’re having all, like, your– the millennial parents are going to relate to, like, cell phones and dating apps. And it’s just completely contemporized, but it just brought back everything that we love about the original.

GIANNA FRANCO: Oh, and the voices. I mean– so, like, Cheryl, what did you think when you heard there was going to be a reboot, and you were going to be back as Angelica?

CHERYL CHASE: Oh, I was just beside myself with joy to be able to, because Angelica always lived inside of me. She’s a part of me. But to be able to play her all over again and get paid– how fun is that?

GIANNA FRANCO: Right. I mean, it’s always nice to get paid, and especially when you’re doing something you absolutely love.

CHERYL CHASE: Yeah.

GIANNA FRANCO: You know, what is– you know, what’s been the response so far, EG, when people found out the “Rugrats” are back?

EG DAILY: Oh my gosh. I mean, not to mention my own personal friends and family and the amount of texts and emails that I’m getting about how excited people are and how much this show impacted their own lives, like, everybody I know– this show kind of was part of their family growing up.

And then I went online last night. I just hashtagged “the Rugrats.” And I just can’t believe how much stuff is out there. People are– I saw somebody with nails. They had a Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, Lil nails on their hands. I saw– like, people are drawing the characters. They’re kind of reinventing them with their own art.

But I think everybody is just so excited to be reconnecting to this thing that we– you know, that we’ve had all along [INAUDIBLE] now it’s going to be a new [INAUDIBLE], but it’s going to still bring back that same nostalgia that everybody wants right now, because COVID took our families away. And we get to come back with everybody as they’re going back to their family.

GIANNA FRANCO: Which is so nice. Absolutely. I wish I would have grabbed them, but I didn’t really know, in advance, I was going to be doing this on Zoom by myself without the station today. I have socks that are the “Rugrats.” I should have brought them out and shared them with you guys. OK. So let’s talk about this first premiere episode. It’s going to be a one-hour premiere and then six episodes streaming with more to come. Cheryl, what can we expect?

CHERYL CHASE: Well, one of the cartoons you can expect is, Angelica gets a doll that’s an exact replica of herself. And she orders the doll, and all the babies end up loving the doll more than her, which makes her very unhappy. She’s not very happy about that. But that’s a really fun episode. And in the pilot, the babies– they go to Jurassic World, and they’re having this big adventure there. And EG, you probably can tell them more about that.

EG DAILY: I mean, you know, I would just say, like, in– you know, it’s still through the eyes of children. It’s still the secret life of, you know, little babies and their perspective of everything. But you’re going to just see, like, the way they animated this “Jurassic Park” episode. It’s so incredible. I was just like– as I was doing, like, ADR, fixing lines here and there, I was just like– all I wanted to do was watch more of it.

And you know, I just love how they brought– like, Grandpa Lou does yoga, and he’s, like, a hippie. And we’re going to be able to relate to them all. Like, people are going to relate to them so much now. And I don’t know. I’m just mind-boggled. I’m mind-boggled every time I see it. And they’re going to be– wait till you see this first episode. It’s just incredible.

GIANNA FRANCO: Oh, I’m so excited. I cannot wait. Well, we’re very excited to hear that the “Rugrats” are back and will be streaming on Paramount+ starting on May 27. Anything else you ladies would like to add before I let you go?

CHERYL CHASE: [INAUDIBLE]–

EG DAILY: Yeah, just remember– go ahead, Cheryl.

CHERYL CHASE: Oh, no. Go ahead.

EG DAILY: I’m just going to say, a baby’s got to do what a baby’s got to do.

CHERYL CHASE: One–

GIANNA FRANCO: I love it.

CHERYL CHASE: One fun thing I was going to say with the babies is, Susie Carmichael is reimagined to be two years old, and she gets to hang out with the babies. And she doesn’t–

GIANNA FRANCO: Oh, wow.

CHERYL CHASE: She’s non-verbal. So she’s just like the other little babies.

GIANNA FRANCO: Oh, that is so cool. That is so cool. Well, my brother used to always say I was very much like Angelica, and I took it as a compliment. I’m a little bossy.

CHERYL CHASE: Oh, thank you. Oh, thank you.

EG DAILY: Uh-oh.

GIANNA FRANCO: Uh-oh.

[CHUCKLING]
