Judge Cuts Hemp Equipment Co. Slack Over Counsel Woes

By Sarah Jarvis (February 16, 2022, 6:12 PM EST) — A Kentucky federal judge has denied a default judgment bid brought by a hemp company that accused an industrial hemp equipment company of infringing on its trademarked name, saying the equipment company offered a credible explanation for a delay in securing new counsel.

U.S. District Judge Thomas B. Russell noted in an order filed Tuesday that Industrial Hemp Solutions, which does business as Global Hemp Solutions, argued that it failed to obtain new counsel after its previous counsel withdrew from the case because of poor legal advice, “rather than any attempt to thwart or recklessly disregard the judicial process.”
