The Battle for (Ultimate Control) of the Metaverse is now in Full Swing !
For those of you who are not (yet) quite up to date , at present : The ‘Metaverse’ (of Overlord Mark Zuckerberg) is ‘All the Rage’ , right now.
Facebookâs Metaverse is reportedly working on new technology that could involve much more realistic interactions – such as body pose tracking and clothing which wrinkles with movement , even when such dimensions could also bring with them a Pandora’s Box of Privacy (and GDPR) Concerns.
Apart from that : Facebook , which now goes by the parent company name Meta , has in the last year , had many hundreds of New Patents approved by the United States Government , according to a detailed report by Business Insider. The publication additionally claimed that the New Patents ranged from smaller headsets to hyper-realistic avatars ; including clothing that would require body mapping etc.
Alas : China is Not Amused – and Neither are so many others , either.
Close Sources to another Huge Tech Giant , Apple inc , apparently claim that the (Apple) High Command is cautiously regarding the Metaverse as a VR (Virtual Reality) Playground which Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg is (gleefully) Forcing down everyone’s Throats – one which is not likely to consume the (Whole Wide) Planet , most especially over the next few years.
That is (quite probably) why , it seems , that Apple CEO (President) Tim Cook isn’t actually buying everything which ‘Doctor Zuck’ is eagerly selling to him – at least for now. According to verified media reports , Apple does not anticipate ever building a Metaverse. Apple, instead of seeing its VR headset as something users will want to wear for long periods of time , see it as a device that users will wear occasionally to communicate, play games, or enjoy entertainment etc.
In a related international development : The USA (United States of America) , Finland and China currently appear to be in the throes of a (Far-Reaching) Diplomatic ‘Metaverse’ War .
As things currently stand : Finland may have already (publicly) sided with the USA ; while Huawei (of China) appears to have already privately vowed to (Publicly) Retaliate.
This is perhaps one of the main reasons why Top Chinese Technology Giant Huawei has already applied for a (Highly Contentious) Trademark, META-FI , in China , in an Open IP (Intellectual Property) Challenge to Facebook.
Of Course – Before then , Facebook had already (avidly) snapped up the (Highly Sought After) Domain Name , Meta.Fi , from none other that the Honourable Digital Minister of Finland , His Excellency Timo Harakka – in a Private Commercial Deal which is rumoured to be Huge !
Whatever the case , Huawei is now claiming to own the Meta-Fi brand , similar in terms of usage to Wi-Fi (For Wireless) and Hi-Fi (For Music). ‘Meta-Fi’ would have obviously applied to the Metaverse (which is ruled by Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg). Hence was the ‘over-riding’ need for very Snappy Action by Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg – in terms of the (Meta.Fi) Domain Name Purchase.
As everyone knows : When Facebook sought to clear website names ahead of its global rebrand to the corporate name Meta, it bumped into an unusual owner of the Finnish URL meta.fi : The Country’s (Very Own) Digital Minister (HE Timo Harakka) – Finland’s Minister of Transport and Communications. Timo Harakka actually bought meta.fi about a decade ago in 2013 (or so) through his publishing and communications firm , Hansakunta Oy , a Local Finnish Newspaper , Helsingin Sanomat , reported previously.
Harakka then (apparently) ‘cashed in’ on the Domain when selling it to Hogan Lovells, a Law Firm that provides services to Facebook , ahead of FaceBook’s big rebrand to Meta in late October of 2021.
To Date : Finnish Minister Harakka has refused to comment on how much he actually sold the domain to Facebook for ; but he did tell Helsingin Sanomat he was initially approached by many interested buyers late last summer ; and that the negotiations (over the price) aprroximately lasted for around a month (or so).
At the time of this Press Release , Minister Timo Harakka had repeatedly declined to disclose how much money he actually made from Mark Zuckerberg in relation to the sale of meta.fi – but it is (now) believed to have been sold for somewhere within the Region of around Seven Figures ; primarily because Huawei had allegedly bid up to about US$1000000 (One Million American Dollars in Cash) for it , before the Honourable Minister had politely declined Huawei’s Offer and (quietly) sold it on to Facebook.
Timo Harakka, is a Very Colourful Political Figure in Finnish Politics. He only took up Elected Office about 7 years ago in 2015 , many years after he had wisely purchased the (meta.fi) Domain Name. He has held the Top Cabinet (Government) Leadership Position of Minister of Transport , Digital Services and Communication since 2019 – and is rumoured to be a Very Strong Political Candidate to be the next Prime Minister of Finland.
