Pakyong, 24 Jan : In the recent years with mushrooming of internet there has been gross misutilization of facility , cyber frauds has caused biggest damage to innocents who gets attracted towards lucrative benefits there by getting phished up or hacked intentionally by dubious people lurking with non-good intentions. Safety and security of online trading , transactions etc related to confidentiality has been biggest challenge for the various organization taking that advantage the no-good intention (miscreants) try to misguide novice unfortunately innocents gets duped heavily.
Let us come to educational sector where there’s tremendous rush to apply for better education by innocents , one desire to go for best of best quality education getting enrolled in best institution but here too the miscreants haven’t spared. Duplication of name mimicking names of certain institution making it appear as if it is genuine lots of parents and students fall prey of it.
In one such instance recently only established ‘Kanchendzonga State University’ of Sikkim – Established by Act of Sikkim Legislative Assembly 2021 same thing has taken place where (See Pic) one miscreant has created a website/portal to dupe innocents mimicking as if it is State University with Top Level Domain TLD .com , not that much it is also come to learn that there’re other such website with same mimicking name with TLD .org also, as per the circular issued by the Office of the KSUS on Monday.

The University in this regard has taken up the matter very stringently issuing public circular not to fall prey of such dubious website at all, the university has also mentioned their officiating emails for any correspondence.
On asking The Vice Chancellor Dr. Ashish Sharma of KSUS , he told that we’ve recorded the incident and have swiftly took action against the errant website(s), he also informed that very soon we shall do concrete action enabling people to do away with such websites.
It may kindly be noted that any educational websites as per the ERNET India , Govt of India IT Services are given TLDS based on usage with suffix .edu, .edu.in, .ac.in so on. The process involves verification, authorization and approval following which the institution are allotted desired domain names. TVOS IT Cell advises the people to be very very cautious with TLDs especially .Com, .Org, .In and even .Net check / verify their website before starting off any task. Also, check if such website has their authentic Digitally Signed Certificate often called Protocol HTTS , because this is first step to verify it.
Get that it is not just websites alone, there’re potentially unwanted dubious mobile applications also which are doing such duplication and exercise online, however Google and Apple Inc. does take preventive measure to ensure safety however some miscreants tactfully using certain mechanism bypass their policies. By end of the day it is all upon people to ensure their own safety and security before falling prey.
