The European Union Commission had already announced in 2018 that British companies would no longer be allowed to register and operate domain names with the extension .eu after Brexit. Domain withdrawn from anyone who did not provide relevant evidence. Ironically, one of the offline websites is that of the Brexit campaign Leave.eu. Backed by the founder of the right-wing populist party Ukip Nigel Farage, she fought hard for years to leave the European Union.
When this was achieved, the website continued as a right-wing populist riot platform – and received numerous lawsuits and fines in addition to data security breaches, false information about campaign donations and defamation.
According to the online magazine “Politico”, the operators tried to maintain their eligibility for Leave.EU by registering them at an address in Waterford, Ireland. It didn’t work: domains can now be purchased like 48,000 others – but only by people who live in the EU or are citizens of a member state.
