LA JOLLA, CA – The estate of children’s author Dr. Seuss announced following his March 2 birthday that new books will be released based on old sketches by the late children’s author that have never been published before, accompanied by new “inclusive” text written by writers with “diverse racial backgrounds.”
In May 2021, six Dr. Seuss books were “cancelled” and pulled from shelves by Dr. Seuss Enterprises due to alleged “racist and insensitive imagery” and themes, drawing cheers from some and condemnation and cries of censorship from others.

The books that were yanked amid the controversy were “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street,” “If I Ran the Zoo,” “McElligot’s Pool,” “On Beyond Zebra!,” “Scrambled Eggs Super!,” and “The Cat’s Quizzer.”
However, it appears that the estate of Dr. Seuss – real name, Theodor Seuss Geisel, who passed away in 1991 – is attempting to portray him in a new, “woke” light.
A series of unreleased sketches by Seuss will become the basis for the new series – as yet, untitled – and scheduled to be published in 2023, which will be paired with new text aimed at readers ages 4 through 8. The writers will represent will create storylines that “represent a diverse cross-section of racial backgrounds to represent as many families as possible,” according to President and CEO of Dr. Seuss Enterprises, Susan Brandt,
“We look forward to putting the spotlight on a new generation of talent who we know will bring their unique voices and style to the page, while also drawing inspiration from the creativity and imagination of Dr. Seuss,” she said. “The original Dr. Seuss sketch that serves as the inspiration for each of the new Seuss Studios books will be included in the book, along with a note from the creators explaining how they were inspired, and their process.”
