New Twitter feature adds iOS and Android support for Ethereum tipping

Social media giant Twitter has announced the expansion of its tipping options to support Ethereum (ETH).

The popular platform recently launched a new integrated tipping feature which allows iOS and Android users to add links to selected third-party payment providers in their profile, including Bitocin wallets. The tool is designed to be more seamless than sharing third-party payment usernames via tweets and involves embedding links directly into your Twitter profile.

In a blog post Twitter said: “Through Tips, you’ll also be able to copy someone’s Bitcoin or Ethereum address and paste their address into whatever wallet you use.

“You will be able to send tips from your account on the third-party service and recipients will be able to see your username on that service. Information about you, including, but not limited to, your full name, address and your tip may be shared with the recipient or others, subject to the terms of the third-party payment service.”

Users can tip others on Twitter by clicking on the stack-of-cash tip icon at the top of one’s profile, grab the ETH address and send.

Johnny Winston, lead product manager of creator monetisation at Twitter, said: “We’re continuing to expand ways to get paid on Twitter which includes more choices for creators and fans who want to use crypto.

“We’re excited to add the ability for anyone to add their ETH address to Tips.”

At the moment, Twitter will not support Ethereum Name Service (ENS) domain names, but it will support ETH and ERCi20 tokens.

The feature is currently only available for iOS and Android mobile phones.
