Faced with competition from Chrome, Opera has always been able to stand out. On mobile, for example, it provides browsers that reduce data consumption to a strict minimum, and which are popular in countries where Internet access is expensive (compared to purchasing power).
On a computer, Opera also offers many interesting features, such as a VPN that competes with free extensions, or a cryptocurrency wallet. Indeed, Opera is one of the players that supports cryptos, the blockchain, as well as Web3 (the decentralized and blockchain-based web).
Crypto Browser available in beta
This week, Opera is once again making headlines by launching a new beta browser called Crypto Browser on PC, Mac and Android. Although Opera’s classic browser already integrates cryptocurrency and blockchain-related features, this browser presents itself, at the design level, as a dedicated solution.
“Too few web browsing experiences offered today were designed with the intention of putting Web3 center stage and making blockchain technologies understandable and easy to use. With the Crypto Browser project, we have decided to change that, and starting today, we invite the blockchain community to join this mission”, reads the Opera announcement.
With this browser, Opera targets both those who have already adopted these technologies and those who have just discovered them. Among the features of Crypto Browser, there is the Crypto Corner, a homepage that will allow the user to get informed easily.

This information center will display the latest news related to blockchain, airdrops, events, podcasts, videos, educational content, as well as NFTs. Opera also explains that the browser has been specially designed to support a number of dApps or decentralized applications.

When it comes to cryptocurrencies, Crypto Browser incorporates a new non-custodial native crypto wallet. But users will be able to use other solutions, such as Metamask. And Opera has implemented a switcher that will easily switch between wallets.
Another interesting feature: the clipboard. Opera explains that it was designed so that no one can exploit the clipboard to steal confidential information.
Otherwise, like Opera Browser, Crypto Browser is based on Google’s Chromium technology. And there is also a VPN, as well as an anti-tracking feature.
