Digital Asset Monetary Network, Inc. (OTCMKTS: DATI) announced that it had purchased the rights to the Top-Level-Domain (“TLD”),.hiphop, via Dot Hip Hop, LLC — whose partnership is listed in the Company’s Q3 2021 Financial Disclosures — in collaboration with seasoned Domain Name industry executive-entrepreneurs.
DigitalAMN made the announcement without revealing TLD’s name
Initially, the company made the announcement without specifying the TLD’s name as.hiphop. This was done to protect the integrity of the Internet Corporation for Assignment of Names and Numbers (ICANN) assignment procedure. The allocation of the.hiphop gTLD Registry Agreement (a unique license to run the.hiphop TLD), as with all gTLD assignments, is subject to receiving ICANN’s authorization, which may not be withheld arbitrarily.
Dot Hip Hop acquired authorization from ICANN to finalize the assignment of the.hiphop TLD from the former holder, and DigitalAMN intended to confirm the identity of the gTLD once Dot Hip Hop receives consent from ICANN to finalize the assignment of the .hiphop TLD from the former holder. While this hasn’t happened yet, Domain Incite has discovered and disclosed DigitalAMN’s connection to .hiphop.
CEO of DigitalAMN Ajene Watson said, “We are truly excited about .hiphop for so many reasons. One being that we get the opportunity to partner and work with several incredibly experienced, well-known, and highly respected figures in the domaining space.”
Hip hop has brought awareness to inequalities and inequities
Ajene added, “As a culture, Hip Hop has helped to break down barriers, bring awareness to inequities and inequalities, and give both the undervalued and unvoiced platforms to stand, grow and flourish. And of course, this venture gives us the opportunity to work with ‘thought leaders’, artists, entertainers, designers, business leaders and the Icons of Hip Hop.”
ICANN is still processing the registration and assignment of the.hiphop gTLD to Dot Hip Hop. This procedure appears to be taking longer and expensive than the standard transfer procedure. However, Dot Hip Hop has completed the necessary requirements for ICANN to complete the transfer of the.hiphop gTLD Registry Agreement from the former owner to Dot Hip Hop.
