Index – Tech-Science – Facebook sues scammers

Facebook has filed a lawsuit in California against cybercriminals who run fake phishing sites that copy their services.

In the phishing scam, 39,000 websites were created that falsely present themselves as login pages for Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatApp. On these pages, users were asked to enter their login names and passwords, which were collected by the accused

Jessica Romero, META’s legal director, said in a statement.

The attacks were made possible thanks to a page redirect service called Ngrok, which not only prevented the malicious site from being quarantined using cybersecurity solutions, but also hid the attacker and the location of the website.

With attacks on the rise since March of this year, representatives of the social media company have worked with the service to try and suspend thousands of malicious web addresses.

Facebook hasn’t just started fighting scammers, as early as March 2020, domain registration companies Namecheap and Whoisguiard to sell spoofed web addresses to those who used them for fake login pages. A year ago, he sued OnlineNIC and IDShield for the same thing.

Anti-phishing squad recorded a record 260,642 phishing attacks in July. The number of attacks aimed at obtaining login credentials from unsuspecting users has doubled since 2020.
